Go wild in Wales in the footsteps of George Borrow!
The rural hinterland surrounding Tregaron is an undiscovered gem. Tregaron nestles at the foot of the Cambrian Mountains in the lush valley of the Afon Teifi which is at the heart of the sparsely populated county of Ceredigion. On the roads and byways you will be largely untroubled by traffic and on the footpaths and bridleways you can spend a whole day exploring without seeing another soul.
A 20 mile drive will take you over the wild Cambrian Mountains to the east or to the beautiful Cardigan coastline to the west. Once you have visited you will be hooked!
The terrain is excellent for cycling (on or off road), motorbike and motor touring, walking, birdwatching, fishing, horse riding and dipping in mountain streams. If you want to explore the culture and history of the area you can visit ancient churches, a ruined Cistercian Abbey - Strata Florida, remote chapels in the hills, the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth or Ystwyth Books one of the best bookshops in Wales. For a range of adventurous activities, see Adventures Beyond or ComeandTry.
In Tregaron itself, Rhiannon’s Gold Centre sells high quality Welsh jewellery fashioned in Tregaron from Welsh gold whilst Abercoed Studios sells top quality Welsh woollen products. Further afield in Llwyn y Groes, Jane Beck specialises in Welsh blankets.
