West Wales was the last refuge of the Red Kite which was down to a few pairs by the 1970s.
The Red Kite is now very common and there are good opportunities to observe birdlife in the area.
Perhaps the best location is Cors Caron National Nature reserve just outside Tregaron. This vast raised peat bog is one of the largest in the UK and covers several square miles. There is a visitor centre, and boardwalk trail adjacent to the old railway line and bike trail which is well worth a visit.
