If you’re looking for a family-friendly hotel in Mid Wales where children are actually welcomed – not just tolerated with a token menu and a forced smile – then you’ll feel right at home at Y Talbot. We know the joys and the challenges of family travel (Dafydd and Tracy have got a little one themselves), We’ve built our experience around making yours smoother, easier and genuinely enjoyable – with a few treats along the way. Here in Tregaron, halfway between Cardigan Bay and the Cambrian Mountains, Y Talbot gives you the space, comfort and home-cooked food to wind down after a day of adventuring. Whether you’re staying for one night or a few, bringing the grandparents or just hoping the kids fall asleep quickly so you can finish a glass of wine in peace, we’ve got you covered.
Rooms That Work for Families
Our superior and garden suites both feature sofa beds ideal for younger guests. We can provide put-up beds on request – just call us directly when booking so we can make sure you get the best setup. Booking direct is always best anyway (better rates, no middlemen, and we get to say hello). The hotel and all our dining areas are fully accessible, with easy layouts and entrances, everything you need for a stress-free stay – whether you’re managing prams, wheelchairs or just the usual whirlwind of family life.
“Stayed with our two children and had a brilliant time. Relaxed atmosphere, great food and staff that actually spoke to the kids like people!”

Meals Made for Real Families
Let’s be honest – most children aren’t desperate for artisan wild garlic soup. That’s why we keep the children’s menu simple, generous and full of quality ingredients. Whether it’s a proper sausage and mash, or fish and chips that ends up being shared with the dog, it’s food that fills them up and makes everyone’s life easier. And since the menu’s the same in both the restaurant and the dog-friendly bar, you can choose you setting. Fancy a relaxed dinner with a bit of background buzz? The bar’s perfect. Want to make a moment of it, maybe with grandparents in tow? The restaurant’s got that special occasion feel – without the hush.
What’s Nearby for Families?

With a child of their own, Dafydd and Tracy have tested many of the nearby attractions first-hand – and are happy to share recommendations. You’ll find us pointing guests toward Fantasy Farm Park, just a short drive away, with animals to feed, tractors to ride and indoor play when the weather turns. Or head to the Magic of Life Butterfly House where colourful wings flutter past your nose and wide-eyed wonder is basically guaranteed
.
If you fancy
getting out into the wild, Cors Caron offers a family-friendly boardwalk loop ideal for little legs. And when you’re ready for a seaside day, Aberystwyth is 30 minutes away with its pier, amusement arcade, and just the right amount of nostalgia. If a rugged beach landscape is more your thing then Ynys Las is highly recommended to wear them out, running up and down the sand dunes.
Space to Stretch Out
Back at Y Talbot, we’ve got indoor and outdoor space to help the grown-ups relax and the kids burn off steam. The restaurant seats up to 40, the lounge seats up to12, and the Cwtsh private room – named for the Welsh word meaning “cuddle” – seats up to 8 and is perfect for quieter family dinners.
The garden and patio area are great for a relaxed lunch while younger guests roam within sight. And with Teifi Coffee served all day, a cheeky cappuccino and a homemade brownie can be your little reward while the chaos continues (or while it briefly pauses – it does happen).
Families change fast – but our welcome stays the same. To keep up with the latest offers, family events and what’s happening in Tregaron and the bar, follow us on Facebook and Instagram, or better yet, sign up to our newsletter. You’ll be the first to know when something special is coming up.
Book direct, pack the snacks, and head to the Cambrian Mountains for your next family adventure. We’ll make sure the beds are made and the sausages are sizzling.
