These are the places we genuinely enjoy ourselves – walks, days out and little corners of Ceredigion that we happily recommend to guests looking for something beyond the obvious tourist trail.
Max (Dachshund with a superiority complex!)
If Max had his way, he’d send everyone to Ty’n y Bedw. It’s a wonderful walk with peaceful forestry tracks, riverside paths and plenty of interesting smells for dogs. It’s usually quiet too, which makes it feel like a real hidden gem.

Leri (Our daughter, 9 years old)
Leri recommends a walk at Devil’s Bridge followed by a drink at the Hafod Hotel. Or, if you fancy something a little different, a visit to The Magical Life of Butterflies nearby makes a lovely addition to the day. You can dip your fingers in sugar water and the butterflies will quite happily perch for a special interactive experience.

Tracy
For a quieter walk that still feels wonderfully special, head to Coed Maenarthur in Pontrhydygroes. Park next to the old watermill and follow the woodland paths through the trees and along the river. It’s peaceful, beautiful and usually lovely and quiet. A light snack is highly recommended – there are plenty of spots where you’ll want to stop for five minutes and somehow end up staying for half an hour.

Dafydd
Dafydd’s recommendation requires rather less walking. Head to Aberystwyth, spend a few quid in the arcade on the pier, then wander along the promenade to the Glengower and grab a table outside with a pint. Time it right and you can sit back and watch the sun set over Cardigan Bay or the starlings creating stunning murmurations. Simple, but very hard to beat.
